Dear Readers!
This is my office this morning, and the view is stunning. I am currently writing to you from New York City, furiously finishing revisions to “Blind,” the first official short story for my subscriber access newsletter. This visit is a research trip for my setting and characters, and I hoped to find a place to stay somewhat reminiscent of the loft apartment I imagined in “Refurbished.” I found “The Arlo SOHO,” and could not be more thrilled.
Tomorrow I am launching the subscriber access side of my newsletter. Each month I will send out a new installment from the story started in “Refurbished.” This series, titled “From The Loft,” is about Jean, a newly graduated philosophy major who moved to New York City. Like so many others, Jean is navigating what it means to be a “New Adult,” a term that encapsulates people in their twenties.
After getting a job at Greenhouse Antiques, Jean spends her free time in her loft rereading philosophic texts. From there she navigates the challenges distinctive to new adulthood (how do I do #adulting?). The stories in “From The Loft” will each explore the joys and challenges of being twenty-something in the city, with a little philosophy for seasoning.
This morning I had the pleasure of joining a yoga class on this rooftop. As we went through our sun salutations, I couldn’t agree with this wall above more: every night should end with a good story. I hope you will join me on Jean’s journey!
