Dear Reader,
A new friend told me recently: “Stop looking for the clouds. Just bask in the sun. When the rain comes, you don’t want to have missed the sunshine.”
Being a writer is a lot like being a marathon runner; you have to keep showing up, butt in the chair typing away for months (ehem… years), wondering if all the effort is going to pay off. It’s important to step back at the milestones and recognize the good.
I am thrilled to share with you some major recent successes in my writing journey.
My dark academic fantasy novel, “Bohan the Mage,” has just placed in the top 50 for the "7th Annual Launch Pad Prose Competition.”
This novel is now on The Red List for “Best Fantasy Manuscript of the Year.” If you would like to read this novel for yourself, consider becoming a paying subscriber. I send out a new chapter every month in this newsletter.
Those of you have have been reading this newsletter for a while will know that my previous fantasy novel MONARCH also made it onto The Red List for “Best Fantasy Manuscript of the Year.” I’m pleased to announce MONARCH is still on that list, making me the only writer with two fantasy novels on The Red List.
But wait… there’s more.
Last month I described participating in a 48-Hour Film Festival. With the incredible production company Charthouse, yours truly wrote and script supervised a short film. I am ecstatic to report that this short film, NAMESAKE, was accepted into the San Diego International Film Festival!
NAMESAKE will be featured in the 48-Hour Film Category. If you’re in the area and would like to attend, the showing will be on Friday, October 20th, 1:00—3:00 pm.

There’s more.
Over a year ago I drove across the country from Connecticut to California and landed in San Diego. I worked as a script supervisor for the short film with Charthouse: “First Time Caller,” written by Jon Austin and directed by Nate Allison. This short thriller has now been accepted into 12 different film festivals, and it has collected multiple awards for “Best Thriller” and “Best Cinematography.” Most recently, “First Time Caller” was accepted into the Silicon Beach Film Festival, and played in the historic Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Follow Charthouse on Instagram. There are some stellar chefs cooking in that creative kitchen.
As of this posting, this newsletter officially has over 1,500 subscribers. Thank you for all your support along the way. If you enjoy following this writer on her creative journey, and you know others who would like a new free short story every month, please pass this email along.
Until next time, enjoy the sunshine.
